Pastor: Dr. Charles Kessler and Pat
Rev. Kessler was ordained as a minister in 1973 and served churches in Kentucky and Georgia before becoming a chaplain in the Navy, where he served for twenty-eight years before retiring in 2013. He began serving North Island soon after his retirement and was called as our pastor in 2017. He is married to his high school sweetheart. Pat. They have two children, who are both currently serving as ordained ministers in their respective churches in Texas and Ohio, and three grandchildren.
Worship Leader: Ruth Wright-Harshbarger
Ruth was born and raised as a Southern Belle in Alabama. She attended Auburn University, the University of Georgia, and the University of South Carolina where she studied Music Theory, Composition, and Performance. For fifty years she taught piano, voice, and drums to students from all over the world: China, India, Bulgaria, Lebanon, Canada, Brazil, and Wales. In addition, she taught music at the Bethel Bible College in Kingston, Jamaica. She has lived on Hilton Head Island for forty years and worked as a USPS Mail Carrier. She serves as a member of the U. S. Ballroom Champions Team and is a Country Line Dancer, a former Mrs. Hilton Head, and as Sales Executive for the Mrs. South Carolina Pageant. Ruth has served as a pianist across Beaufort County at various venues, events, and churches. As Ruth would say: “May all your days be blest and keep a song in your heart.”
Pianist: Charlie Curtis
Charlie graduated from the College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati.. He has served as the keyboardist for the Kentucky Symphony Pops Orchestra, Airwaves Productions, and as the accompanist for the District 14. OMEA Junior Honor Choir and the Milford Ohio Exempted School System, as well as various other positions.
Since moving to the Hilton Head area, he has served as the 2018 Community Messiah rehearsal accompanist, as pianist and orchestrator for the First Presbyterian Church choirs, has played for the Hilton Head Symphony rehearsal chorus, the Savannah Vocal Arts festival, and numerous other events, attractions, and functions in the Savannah/Hilton Head area.
Charlie has recently formed the “Sentimental Journey Quartet,” a vocal group specializing in a variety of “White Christmas” style holiday shows and themed productions .
Secretary: Sandra (Sandi) Roach
Sandi was born in Massachusetts where she was active in dance and theater. During that time, she received Christ at a Billy Graham rally. She has a BA from the University of Utah where she was on the swimming and track teams.
While in Utah, she married Ronald Roach and they had one son. In the past, she and her husband managed restaurants and were on an emergency team that traveled to assist struggling restaurants. Sandi moved to Hilton Head Island in 1981 and currently lives in Port Royal Plantation. Since 1987, Sandi has been serving in various mission organizations and is currently serving part-time with Wycliffe Associates as the Assistant to the Director for West Africa.
